VLSI Real world ... Role of MuGFET

Dear readers We know that VLSI circuits are based on low power, low area and high speed circuits. We think that we use transistors like single gate MOSFET but in real world we can use multi gate MOSFET.

A multigate device or multiple-gate field-effect transistor (MuGFET) refers to aMOSFET (metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor) that incorporates more than one gate into a single device. The multiple gates may be controlled by a single gate electrode, wherein the multiple gate surfaces act electrically as a single gate, or by independent gate electrodes. A multigate device employing independent gate electrodes is sometimes called a multiple-independent-gate field-effect transistor(MIGFET).

In the next post I will discuss some other good things of practical importance ... Yours Sri

Automotive electronics series 1 - Smart box in cars .. . Similar to black box in planes.

smartbox, similar to a black box for airplanes, records details about how your car is driven, which can result in cheap car insurance for responsible drivers.
The device is connected to the electronics in your car and collects a wide criteria of information such as time, speed, braking, cornering, acceleration and location.
The smartbox data is wireless transferred in real time to the insurance company and provides a profile of when, where and how you drive. This profile is then used to compare insurance rates and to reward low-risk driving behavior with cheap insurance rates.
Drivers are high-risk when they drive irresponsibly such as speeding, frequent lane changing, driving in high-risk locations or at high-risk times such as in heavy traffic or late at night.
These new electronic inventions are intended to replace the standard practice of categorizing drivers into group behavior to determine insurance coverage and premium payments.
For example, young drivers are more likely to drive fast, drive at night. and use a cell phone while driving. Statistically, young drivers are more likely to cause an accident so insurance companies charge them higher rates to cover the costs of accident claims.
So even if you're a young, responsible driver, you will pay high insurance rates because of group behavior.
This technology allows you to provide proof that your driving behavior doesn't fit the pattern of your demographic group.
All the information collected about your driving can be viewed online - including what you're doing well and what could be improved. Your insurance premium is then calculated according to your driving profile.

Technical Teasers series 3 - Solar Hybrid Electric Car by ISRO

  • Maruti Omni was fitted with solar hybrid electric car technology

  • Energy is supplied to the vehicle by energy density Lithium ion batteries
  • The solar panel charges the battery onthe go

Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), ISRO, Thiruvananthapuram, demonstrated the running of a solar hybrid electric car using in-house expertise and resources within ISRO. As you can imagine, there were a number of problems that it had to handle and this included,  the right solar panel to suit the roof top of car, a super-capacitor to meet the high peak current of beyond 100 A level, an integral gear box to augment the performance of the Brushless DC (BLDC) motor and of course control electronics for the battery and solar panel interface and drive electronics for running the motor in a smooth way. The biggest one of course was the conversion of the internal combustion engine (ICE) based vehicle, which was a Maruti Suzuki Omni, to fit in with the electric motor.

JAM topic - PERSONAL INTRODUCTION

jam FUNDAMENTAL TOPIC

PERSONAL INTRODUCTION

Dear students, It is the most simple topic to describe yourself in one aspect and
very difficult in hiding your communication and interactive skills and weakness.
When you are trying to describe about yourself try to make SWOT Analysis by you and with the guidance  of your friends, family members and faculty. In SWOT Analysis S stands for Strength, W stands for Weakness, O stands for Opportunities and T stands for Threats. To get some more better feed back prepare a Mock JAM Video just like Video Resume. If you do one of them other may be very easy. While preparing this don’t go into conflict circles. Express only optimistic and broad minded views. Avoid pessimistic, narrow minded and foolish views. Optimistic quality tells about your positive attitude, confidence level, pro-activeness, willingness to learn and situation reactiveness and adaptiveness.
