Dear  Prof

To introduce students / faculty to the latest research and state-of-the-art techniques in game theory for wireless communication, a short course on “Game Theory and Competitive Strategies in 4G/ 5G Wireless Networks“ is being organized  at IIT Kanpur from 19th  to 21st February  2018. Game theory is a novel framework to model the strategic interaction between multiple competing agents with widespread applicability. Techniques in game theory have been successfully applied in several areas of wireless communication such as 3G/ 4G wireless cellular networks, MIMO/ OFDM wireless technologies, Cognitive Radio and several others, with several researches underway towards exploring its utility in 5G wireless and Massive MIMO systems. More details regarding the course can be found at: http://www.iitk.ac.in/mwn/gt/index.html
The course is intended for participants at all levels, including B.Tech/ M.Tech / Ph.D. students, faculty members and professional engineers. The participants will be introduced to a wide spectrum of challenging research problems arising in wireless networks, such as Multi-user MIMO-OFDM networks, Multi-antenna Beamforming, Power Control in Wireless Networks, Cognitive Radio, Spectrum Auction / Management and several others, that can be successfully solved using Game Theory. Tutorial problem discussion and a MATLAB demonstration / participation module will help students implement and understand Game Theory techniques for their research in wireless technology.

Regards,
Prof. Aditya K. Jagannatham
Associate Professor
Dept. of Electrical Engineering

VLSI Real world ... Role of MuGFET

Dear readers We know that VLSI circuits are based on low power, low area and high speed circuits. We think that we use transistors like single gate MOSFET but in real world we can use multi gate MOSFET.

A multigate device or multiple-gate field-effect transistor (MuGFET) refers to aMOSFET (metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor) that incorporates more than one gate into a single device. The multiple gates may be controlled by a single gate electrode, wherein the multiple gate surfaces act electrically as a single gate, or by independent gate electrodes. A multigate device employing independent gate electrodes is sometimes called a multiple-independent-gate field-effect transistor(MIGFET).

In the next post I will discuss some other good things of practical importance ... Yours Sri

Innovate the inventor (ITI) series Inventor 3 - FET inventors

Innovate the inventor (ITI) series Inventor 3

FET stands for Field effect transistor. There two inventors who got patent for FET.

I posted the pic of one of inventor. Can you identify him?

Hints:

  •  Austro-Hungarian physicist.
  • His work interest was on the discharge of electrical particles or electrons in a vacuum.
  • Also proposed and experimented on Lilienfeld radiation similar to XRay radiations

Automotive electronics series 1 - Smart box in cars .. . Similar to black box in planes.

smartbox, similar to a black box for airplanes, records details about how your car is driven, which can result in cheap car insurance for responsible drivers.
The device is connected to the electronics in your car and collects a wide criteria of information such as time, speed, braking, cornering, acceleration and location.
The smartbox data is wireless transferred in real time to the insurance company and provides a profile of when, where and how you drive. This profile is then used to compare insurance rates and to reward low-risk driving behavior with cheap insurance rates.
Drivers are high-risk when they drive irresponsibly such as speeding, frequent lane changing, driving in high-risk locations or at high-risk times such as in heavy traffic or late at night.
These new electronic inventions are intended to replace the standard practice of categorizing drivers into group behavior to determine insurance coverage and premium payments.
For example, young drivers are more likely to drive fast, drive at night. and use a cell phone while driving. Statistically, young drivers are more likely to cause an accident so insurance companies charge them higher rates to cover the costs of accident claims.
So even if you're a young, responsible driver, you will pay high insurance rates because of group behavior.
This technology allows you to provide proof that your driving behavior doesn't fit the pattern of your demographic group.
All the information collected about your driving can be viewed online - including what you're doing well and what could be improved. Your insurance premium is then calculated according to your driving profile.
